Lake Okabena is located in one of the windiest areas of the
United States. This area is known as Buffalo Ridge. There
are over 600 large wind generators located in Southwestern
Minnesota.
Lake Okabena has been a sailing destination for over 100
years.
Two folders are included under this section. The first
folder contains some of the oldest known photos of Lake
Okabena and the City of Worthington.
The second folder contains a bit of history about
Worthington. After World War II the Worthington City
Council adopted the City of Crailsheim Germany as a Sister
City. This move was a gesture of peace and good will after
a long and bitter war. The April 1948 issue of
American Family Magazine included
the interesting and humorous article
"Worthington Make Peace With the
Germans".
According to this article, Worthington was the first city
in the United States of America to reach out to the Germans
with an offer of friendship and good will. Worthington
helped the Germans with such basic needs as clothing and
shoes, and provided other assistance in rebuilding their
lives.
Worthington Minnesota and Crailsheim Germany remain Sister
Cities to this day.
