The 2007 Midwest Speed Quest is over. This has been a terrific season.

We follow the rules and methods of International Speed Sailing. Our GPS units are the most precise handheld units available. Our speeds can be compared to other Speed Sailors around the World. And the Prize Money remains the best in North American Speed Sailing.

All competitors used a LOCOSYS GT-11 GPS. The speeds were based on the "Average of 5 Ten Second Runs". The GPS data was entered into a computer, and the data was carefully analyzed. Speeds were calculated to .01 knots with great precision. The tools and methods used were consistent with International Speed Sailing Events, and GPS Speed Surfing


And The Final Results are:

 First Place: Richard White, Portland Oregon 31.94 knots (36.73 mph).

 Second Place: Chris Lock, Plainview, Minnesota 31.24 knots (35.93 mph)

Third Place: Adam Anderson, Eagen Minnesota 29.58 knots (34.02 mph)

 Fourth Place: Steve Johnson, Shore View, MN 29.41 knots (33.82 mph)

 Fifth Place: Dave Cleveland, Howard Lake, Minnesota 29.35 knots (33.75 mph)

Congratulations the winners. Richard will receive $1000 CASH, Chris will receive $500, Adam $250, Steve $125, and Dave $75.

This was a great year, with 47 Windsurfers participating, including17 First Time Sailors.

Our Youngest Racers were first time sailors Clair Ludes and Cosmo Morgan, both age 7.

It is important we all support new windsurfers to grow the Sport of Windsurfing.

Over 106 Speed Sailing Sessions and more than 1079 Miles of Speed Sailing were officially recorded on Lake Okabena during the 2007 Season.

The 2007 High Mileage Award goes to Chris Lock with a total of 113 miles recorded over 4 sessions.

The most sessions were recorded by Jason Swanson (12), followed by Jeff Hegwer (10), and Craig Bergh (9).

New for 2007 is the "Spirit of Speed Quest Award". Each year, we will recognize that sailor with the greatest passion for Speed Sailing, and who also shows the most improvement. For 2007, this is awarded to Jason Swanson of Worthington, who added over 2 knots to his best speeds from 2006.. Congratulations Jason!!!

I really want to thank all the Sailors. It is a pleasure to put on an event for guest like ones we had in 2007. Our home remains open to all visiting Windsurfers. We invite you back in 2008!

The Midwest Speed Quest was designed to be different. The purpose is to promote the new Sport of Speed Sailing, and the City of Worthington. Our goal was to bring Sailors of all skill levels together, and introduce them to the new Sport of Speed Sailing. The schedule was open 7 days a week for a 6 month period. Any visiting sailor was assured of the chance to participate anytime he/she was in the area. We provide free or discounted motel rooms at the AmericInn of Worthington, free refreshments on the Beach, and free hot meals at the end of the day. And we have the best Speed Sailing gear available for visiting sailors to try out.

We also provided free on-site Child Care, Pet Care, and Spousal Care (care of the Windsurfing Widow).

All the work associated with this event was was done on a volunteer basis. Meals and refreshments were served beach side all season long without charge. A special thanks to my wife Pamela Bergh for the many fine meals cooked and served over the last 6 months to the visiting Sailors.
