Many Windsurfing Regattas will require that you have numbers on your sail. Or you may want to add your name, a Team Logo, or a Sponsor Logo. This page lists the correct system for numbering the sail, and what materials can safely be used.

1) Font: The numbers should be Helvetica Bold Font

2) Size: For Windsurfing Boards and for other Sailing Crafts under 3.5 meters in length, the numbers should be 9 inches (230 mm) high and 2 inches (45mm) apart.

For Crafts 3.5 to 8.5 meters, the numbers should be 12 inches (300 mm) high and 2.5 inches (60mm) apart.

For Crafts 8.5 to 11 meters the numbers should be 15 inches (375 mm) high and 3 inches (75 mm) apart.

For Crafts over 11 meters the numbers should be 18 inches (450 mm) high and 3.5 inches (90 mm) apart.

3) Position: If the sail is clear (monofilm), the number should be displayed on the starboard (right) side of the sail, centered above the third batton. If you want numbers on both sides, or if your sail is opaque, the starboard numbers should be mounted higher than the numbers on the port side.

4) Material: The numbers or logos should be made out of premium grade adhesive vinyl. These are easy to apply and will not fade. Only specialty sign shops will have the correct material. These can easily be peeled off with a fingernail even after years of use. There will be no marks or damage to the sail.

We recommend Lende Signs or Worthington as a supplier of Sail Numbers and Logos. Lende Signs have been great supporters of Windsurfing and have excellent customer service. They can also create your name, signature, or a color custom club or corporate logo in premium grade vinyl.

They have 9 inch premium vinyl numbers for about $6.00 each. You can order over the telephone, and they will mail the numbers to you.
